A Description of Alfred Russel Wallace


Alfred Russel Wallace was a biologist who spend alot of time in the east.
He was born in 1823 in Wales. He died in 1913 at the age of 90. At the age of about fourty, He decided to explore the Indonesian Archipelago. He studied the plants and animals in two sides of the Maluku Straits. On the eastern side he found animals similar to those found in Australia. On the western side He found the animals similar tothose in Thailand and India. He was awarded the Royal Society's 'Royal Medal' in 1866 for his workon the Indonesian Archipelago. Scientists later drew an imaginary line and calldit "The Wallace Line". The line separates Kalimantan and Sulawesi to the north and Bali and Lombok to the south. This line marks the point where the Asian Flora and fauna and the Australian flora and fauna meet.
